**Circa is temporarily on hiatus and is no longer accepting submissions.**

Have you got a love story set during the Great Fire of London, a mystery among the Mayans, an homage to Ancient Rome?  We’d love to read it!

To increase your chances of acceptance, remember Circa loves anything that provides a fresh take on history and resists cliche.  We love genre-crossing, speculative and alternative history, too.  Be original, bold and striking!

We nominate for prizes such as the Pushcart Prize and the storySouth Million Writers Award.

What do we accept?

Circa accepts fiction, creative non-fiction, and articles on an historical theme.   Short stories and creative non-fiction should not exceed 2500 words and articles should not exceed 800 words.  As a Canadian journal, we have a special place in our heart for Canadian stories.  Novel excerpts are welcome, but only if they can stand alone.

How do you submit?

We accept email submissions only.  All manuscripts must be sent as a .doc or .rtf attachment to circamag[at]gmail[dot]com.  Please include a short third-person bio at the end of your submission.

Give us up to three months for a response.  If you haven’t heard from us in that time, then by all means send a gently prodding email.

Simultaneous Submissions and Previously Published

We do accept simultaneous submissions but request that the author withdraw a submission as quickly as possible if it has been placed elsewhere.

No previously published stories, please.

Payment and Copyright

Unfortunately, we are not able to offer payment at this time.

We acquire exclusive first-time Internet rights for all works we publish. Works are also archived online. All other rights, including the right to publish in print form, revert to contributors.  Circa reserves the right to edit works for greater clarity and/or grammatical correctness.
